2016 Homelessness Action Week Events
Every year The Nelson Committee on Homelessness hosts events to raise awareness around issues concerning homelessness and poverty and the work being done in our community, and explore solutions to these issues with the community.

Sunday, October 2
Advance Event: PROFILES OF COURAGE – CALENDAR LAUNCH & PHOTO EXHIBIT
Nelson United Church, 602 Silica St.
5:00 PM Potluck
6:00 PM Exhibit Opens
A working artist, a single mom, senior & disabled women, working poor, a homeless man. Each tells a story as diverse as poverty itself.
Their stories reflect the faces of poverty in Nelson.
The Exhibition will then be open Monday to Thurs. mornings & Sundays.

A PUBLIC PRESENTATION & COMMUNITY FORUM: HOMELESSNESS, TRAUMA & SUFFERING- COMMUNITIES RESPONDING WITH HEART
7:00 PM at Nelson United Church
Renowned guest speaker Dr. VIKKI REYNOLDS will explore the links between trauma, suffering and homelessness and how a community concerned with social justice can respond to the stigmas and misunderstandings around homelessness. Her work bridges the worlds of therapy and social justice. A community panel will add to the discussion.
