2016 Homelessness Action Week Events

Homelessness Action Week is a Canada-wide annual event coordinated locally by the North Shore Homelessness Task Force. The purpose of the week is to raise awareness of the issues of homelessness in our community, to connect homeless and at-risk to resources and services, and to encourage community-led problem-solving. Everyone is invited to get involved through volunteering, or attending community events.

North Shore Connect Day

9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at  John Braithwaite Community Centre
Medical services, foot care, hearing testing, community support resources, haircuts, meals and more – all in one location, on one day.

Free Community Meal/Drop-In at St. Andrew’s United Church

The following events are free and everyone is invited:

  • Community drop-in at the church from 10 am – 12 noon (coffee, tea, snacks and a place to relax and talk); at the same time, they give away fresh bread and baked goods from Cobs Bread.
  • Community lunch from noon to 1 pm in the Friendship Room: home-made soup, garlic bread, sandwiches, desserts, coffee, tea.

Flicks and Forum

6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Ambleside Youth Centre
This free event will feature the documentary “Four Feet Up”, by Nance Ackerman. This film is a MUST SEE! It provides an intimate and touching look into the life of a Canadian family living in poverty. All welcome! Light refreshments provided.

Saturday, October 15
Youth Street Soccer

1:15 PM – 3:00 PM at North Shore Neighbourhood House Gym
West Vancouver youth will play an exhibition game against North Vancouver. Everyone is welcome to attend and to cheer the players on!

YOUTH SAFE HOUSE DINNER – A special meal will be held at the Youth Safe House.
