The City of Vancouver joins communities and organizations throughout Metro Vancouver, BC and the Yukon to mark the 6th annual Homelessness Action Week.
The City is sponsoring many events and activities including Vancouver Homeless Connect events at both the Gathering Place and the old Storyeum site.

Lookout’s 3rd annual fundraising gala in celebration of Lookout’s 40th anniversary. All proceeds this year will go to help furnish the common areas at First Place (Lookout’s new building now under construction at Main/First) to make it a real home for 129 residents.
Early bird ticket price is $100 until September 28th. After that it goes up to $140.

Lookout Emergency Aid Society is a non-profit organization that provides non-sectarian, lay services to adult men and women who are homeless.
Yukon Housing Centre has 71 emergency shelter beds and 37 transitional housing units.
The Gathering Place Homeless Connect

A one-stop shop for people who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness to directly connect with various services related to employment, health, and housing as well as an opportunity to access free services such as haircuts, foot soaks, and food.

Reopening of Carnegie Centre Celebration

A dinner for 100 people to generate ideas for next steps for the H&H Strategy in Renfrew-Collingwood. To build partnerships and programs that can assist in the development of additional and complementary initiatives.

Aboriginal Front Door Society: Cultural Awareness Workshops
Day-long workshops during HAW (Tues-Fri) that will include cultural teachings by elders and coordinators discussing issues of homelessness and resource info, lifeskills training, healing circle & smudge ceremony.
Frog’s Hollow Neighbourhood House: Creative Solutions to Homelessness
Art exhibition by youth’s who are/were homeless or at-risk to demonstrate solutions to homelessness. Exhibit will be showcased during HAW, during Eastside Culture Crawl, and on a web gallery.
Helping Spirit Lodge: Reclaiming our Spirit – Women in Transition
Workshops for shelter clients to educate support and empower women to embrace the new lives they are beginning. Workshops on wellness/self-care, parenting, housing, employment, spirituality and healing.
La Boussole: Building Bridges
Provide at least 10 presentations and brochures to French immersion schools with facts & info about the realities of homelessness in Vancouver and challenges the homeless face.
ViFineday: Lets Stay Strong
A series of workshops/information sessions to boost self esteem and mental wellness. Workshops are intended to prepare clients to respond in positive ways when faced with new challenges and prevent a new crisis when leaving shelter.

Megaphone Vendor Blog Project

Hold series of workshops for vendors to offer them an online medium to tell their stories and teach how to post stories, pictures, video and audio files on Megaphone website. Used laptops computers will be stationed at Megaphone offices for vendor uses.
